Kithwell
In developmentA shared home base for a family caregiving circle — adult children, siblings, paid aides, and the care recipient — to track medications, appointments, tasks, and updates for an aging relative, all in one place instead of stitched together across three apps.
The problem
63 million people in the US are family caregivers, and 28 million of them are managing high-intensity care for an aging relative — usually across a patchwork of a medication app, a shared calendar, and a family group text. The instant photo/OCR medication capture that made this easier disappeared when CareZone shut down in 2023, and no current app has replaced it.
How it's built
Photo/OCR label capture
Point the camera at a pharmacy label and Claude vision extracts name, strength, instructions, and prescriber into an editable confirm step — nothing saves until a human approves it. The one CareZone feature the category lost when it shut down in 2023.
A dosing engine that handles real life
Fixed schedules, multiple times a day, PRN (as-needed), and tapering doses — the kind of messy real-world regimens that trip up rigid competitors.
One login, more than one parent
A person organizing care for both parents switches between two fully separate circles — each with its own members, medications, and calendar — without juggling two accounts.
Role-based circle permissions
Admin, Member, and Limited roles, plus frictionless invite links, so a paid aide or an out-of-town sibling can join and help without ever hitting a billing wall.
One home base, not three stitched together
Medications, shared calendar, a document vault, and a family update feed all live in a single app — the coordination families currently spread across a med app, a calendar, and a group text.
A trust commitment, not a feature
A genuinely free tier that never retroactively hides data a family already had access to, and a permanent no-ads / no-data-sale policy — the exact failure mode of the category leader Kithwell is built to fix.
Stack
React Native + Expo (TypeScript, file-based routing) for a single app shipping to iOS and Android simultaneously, Supabase (Postgres, RLS, realtime sync) for the backend, and Claude vision for pharmacy-label OCR and structured-field extraction.
